Pedestal Table, Fine Woodworking Magazine

It all seems like a dream now...

After building a gorgeous kitchen for a client many years ago now, he showed me a picture of a Louis XVI table in a book of antique furniture that he felt would fit his space perfectly.

He comissioned me to build it considering the space he had to fill and using the picture for proportions. 
We distressed the table to go with the era from which it was drawn based on the paints likely available at the time, and imagining how it may have been repainted over the years.

The construction process and the finished product were all so satisfying I thought it might interest others, so I pitched the idea to Fine Woodworking Magazine.

Custom Furniture

Made from cross-sections of a maple tree that came down in a windstorm separated (yet held together!) by stained ash legs these sturdy bar stools are three in a set of five that were custom ordered for a breakfast bar. 
In each case the top and bottom cross-sections are from the same log, essentially cut and then used as seen so that the curves on the seat are continued on the footrest.

Library Desk, Wakefield Community Centre

Well, Wakefield is getting a little more polished than it used to be and one of the signs of that polish is the new community centre on Valley Drive.
I wanted to be a part of the project, so donated all material and labour required for the reception/check out desk in the library.
If you are in town, this is the easiest of my pieces to access.

Live edge alcove treatment

This is the entrance treatment that turned a typical alcove display area into a unique attraction that impresses guests as soon as they enter the house.

I’ve always dreamed of having a clean, modernist home, and I’m happy to say that Alice and her team at Atelier Cohen led the way to making that dream a reality!
